New drums for Harpenden Pipe Band...
| Harpenden Pipe Band have recently placed
an order for a complete new set of drums in preparation for a busy
season in 2008.
The instruments, comprising of five side drums, five tenor drums and a bass drum, are manufactured by Andante, and supplied by George Potter and Co. Ltd. in Aldershot. The band is expecting delivery in mid October 2007. The purchasing of the new drum set, costing in excess of £4,000, marks a significant investment in the bands quality of performance. Commenting on the upgrade, Pipe Major Stephen Marshall said "after buying new pipe chanters last year, we felt it was important to continue to progress, and a new set of drums will further enhance our sound." The Pipe Band committee's agreement to invest in new drums follows on from a decision to purchase a complete set of Warnock pipe chanters in 2006. Stephen Marshall added "it became apparent pretty soon after buying the chanters that drums would need to follow, our existing instruments have served us well, but as they are no longer in production, we are finding it increasingly difficult to source replacement parts."
